Managing partner Jihong Wang and associates Jie Jang and Angie Wu were invited to attend an international conference organized jointly by Peking University and the University of Texas on the topic of Oil and Gas Development Off-shore: Comparative Legal Approaches to Preventing Spills and Addressing Liability. The conference was held in Beijing China on August 21, 2012 and was attended by academics, practicing lawyers, and government officials, as well as leading experts from major energy and resource companies such as ConocoPhillips and SinoChem. Ms. Wang and scholars from the US explored in depth key issues such as loss assessment, how to divide liabilities, and compensation and indemnification in an oil spill accident. Ms. Wang also raised questions and expanded the discussion regarding which entities are capable of assessing the environmental and resource loss incurred in an oil spill accident, and which entities may impose administrative penalties, as well as general assessment principals and factors that need to be taken into account, which drew great attention from other experts.
